On May 18, 2025, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Mozambique, H.E. Benvinda Levi, took part in the solemn Papal Inauguration Mass of the new Supreme Pontiff, held in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican. The ceremony, which gathered heads of state, religious leaders, and faithful from around the world, officially marked the beginning of the pastoral ministry of the new leader of the Catholic Church.
Mozambique’s presence at this historic event reflects the deep bonds of friendship, respect, and cooperation that have long united the Republic of Mozambique and the Holy See. The Catholic Church has played a vital role in Mozambique’s peace-building, national reconciliation, and social development processes, contributing significantly in areas such as education, healthcare, social assistance, and the promotion of human rights.
During the celebration, the Prime Minister had the opportunity to greet several international dignitaries and ecclesiastical representatives, highlighting Mozambique’s ongoing commitment to interfaith dialogue and global cooperation.
The Republic of Mozambique deeply values the Holy See as a strategic partner in advancing universal principles of human dignity, social justice, and sustainable development. This participation in the Papal Inauguration Mass reaffirms once again the historical, spiritual, and diplomatic ties between the Mozambican people and the Catholic Church.
